Synopsis
For our music video, me and my group decided to produce a pop promo in the genre of Christmas. Our music track and video is called ‘We Love Christmas!’. In our music video, there will be a performance based narrative. The narrative will be a circular narrative, as a Girl goes into a daydream about her perfect Christmas and ends with her coming out of the daydream. An interesting effect, which will also be used in the music video, is going to be a reversed effect on the final shots, being the beginning shots repeated. This would highlight the circular narrative very clearly. To create this, a fading transition will be used at the start and the end of the daydream. Throughout the daydream (video), there will be many Christmas references such as, Christmas hats, tinsel, decorations, mince pies and many more. The Daydreaming Girl is the main character, so she will be shown the most through the video, to show her journey of her perfect Christmas. Other characters in the pop promo would be, 2 musicians, Santa, and carollers. We intend this music video to be a typical Christmas video, which is very “cheesy” and simply, fun to watch.
Treatment
Our music video track lasts 2min 30seconds long, but the video will be slightly longer as there will be 2 daydreaming shots at the beginning and the end. This Christmas music video is for the intended target audience of children and Christmas Lovers.
There will be a number of different locations throughout the video, which are the Ipswich Waterfront, Alexander Park, my house and Ipswich town centre including the Christmas Shop. These locations were also chosen as they are quite pleasant arty sites, which would give an arty background to the video. Theses locations would make the frames more appealing and interesting to the shots. Props which we will be used are an inflatable snowman, a small Christmas tree, wine glasses, mince pies and guitars. I chose to use these props in the video because they all relate to Christmas, give a more convincing Christmas scene, and to highlight actions within in the shot. For example, the wine glasses will be used to show the actions of the Girl and a musician, ‘making a toast’. The costumes would be relatively normal being winter clothing. Also including, Christmas hats, and with Santa wearing a beard and hat. We will be using the natural lighting, but to make the shots more vibrant, we will use a colour corrector to light them up.
For cinematography, we will be using mainly various LS’s and CU’s. Long shots, to highlight the Christmas environment and CU’s to concentrate the shots on Christmas items. Panning will only be used on 3 occasions, the first and final shots and the bridge. This is used to represent a change in the music or simply being the beginning or ending of video. These shots will be much more signinficantly longer.
The editing that is intended to be used, are fading in and out transitions, for representing an entrance and departure of the daydreams. A black and white effect will also be good to use for the Girl going into and out of the daydream. I really liked this effect used in the film ‘The Wizard of Oz’, so I chose to use this effect.
